This project was built in collaboration with my brother James. James did the initial artistic design and together we refined the design, engineered and constructed this wonderful tree house.
The double trunks posed some interesting engineering challenges. If the two trunks moved in tandem there was no problem. But if the two trunks were not synchronized when moving it would tear the structure apart. We designed “X-Beam” floor support system affording us to forgo using support braces below the structure and we mounted it fast to one trunk and designed a sliding mount on the second trunk. This project has since been the focus of several publications.
I had a lot of fun working on this project with my brother and was grateful that he asked me to join him. He’s an enormously talented and creative individual and a constant inspiration for me. |
