This Chinese Bridge is on the Grounds of The Madoo Conservancy in Sagaponack NY. Madoo is considered one of the ten top gardens in the United States, so it was truly a privilege to have been asked to design and build this structure (among several others).
With the exception of the wood roof there are no nails. Its integrity is a result of the joinery. It has so far withstood 2 major hurricanes and several “Nor-Easters” which destroyed structures and felled trees all around it. Today it maintains its stately position across the pond at Madoo, as a testament to the quality of the ancient Japanese joinery techniques that were used to create it. |
