This project was realized after the client saw the Disneyland tree house and wanted something fun for his children. The available budget was only one third of the other tree house. Not wanting the budget to limit me to simply putting a box in a tree, I worked on several designs that would be fun, unique and easy to build. I arrived at the idea of hanging the entire structure from above and having each of the two floors swing independently. Climbing into this tree house is like climbing into a boat. Each floor swings like a hammock and the roof slats, which are also attached to the cables, have spaces between them (much like a louver) affording a view from the second floor within the roof while being shielded from the rain.
The project took me three weeks to construct working alone and came in on budget, and a year later is still enjoyed daily by some very happy kids (and parents).
